There is an interesting story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, in which casino gaming is against the law. Eight gambling halls are anchored in a generally tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling halls is in a prime area, a 3 to 4 hour drive from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a thriving business with Thai laborers and travelers from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a couple of Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from $7.5 million to more than 12.5 million dollars, and there are a couple of controls constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is presumed to be mostly Thai; still, financing sources are vague. The borders are officially open from 09:00 to 1700, and although visas are apparently required to cross, there are ways around this, as is accurate of many border crossings.
The original Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only a single gambling den in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a stationary barge gambling den, contains 150 slot machine games and sixty table games. The Naga gambling den never closes with 42 tables of mini-baccarat chemin de fer, four tables of vingt-et-un, ten of roulette, two of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.
The 1st gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, opened in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. A total of 150 slots and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slot machines and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with 135 slot machine games and sixty six of the familiar gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the 8 casinos in Poipet, again a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and ninety seven casino games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an international resort and hotel building that features a number of comforts aside from the gambling den, which provides ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
