There is a fascinating background to the Cambodia gambling dens that lie just over the dividing line from next door Thailand, in which gambling den gambling is prohibited. Eight gambling dens are anchored in a generally tiny area in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This band of Cambodia casinos is in a perfect destination, a 3 to 4 hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the 2 most popular betting locations in Asia. Cambodia gambling dens do a huge business with Thai workers and guests from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with only very few Westerners. The phenomenal capital gained from the gambling dens ranges from $7.5 million to more than twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a couple of limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be largely Thai; however, financial sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 09:00 to 1700, and though visas are allegedly required to pass, there are methods and means around this, as is true of most borders.
The first Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in 1998, leaving only one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The newest Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 slot machines and seventy table games and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has 166 slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 punto banco (the most beloved game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the common gaming tables, as well as one table of Casino Stud Poker. Another one of the eight casinos in Poipet, again a part of a hotel, is the Princess Casino with 166 slots and 97 games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of a comprehensive vacation and hotel complex that contains a number of amenities accompanying the casino, which has 10,000 square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machine games and eighty eight tables.
