Cambodia Casinos

There is a fascinating story to the Cambodia gambling halls that lie just over the border from next door Thailand, in which casino gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are based in a relatively tiny location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This collection of Cambodia gambling dens is in a prime location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest wagering centers in Asia. Cambodia casinos do a huge business with Thai laborers and visitors from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The phenomenal income acquired from the gambling halls ranges from 7.5 million dollars to over 12.5 million dollars, and there are a few limitations constraints for gambling den ownership. Ownership is assumed to be mainly Thai; although, investment sources are vague. The borders are ceremoniously open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and though visas are allegedly needed to cross, there are methods around this, as is accurate of most borders.

The first Cambodia gambling halls opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving only one gambling hall in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored barge casino, features one hundred and fifty slot machines and 60 gaming tables. The Naga casino is open all day and night with 42 tables of mini-baccarat banque, four tables of blackjack, 10 of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and a single table each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The initial gambling den in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown quickly followed. There are 150 slot machine games and 5 tables at the Golden Crown and one hundred and four slots and sixty eight gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort highlights 300 one armed bandits and 70 tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 96 gaming tables, including 87 baccarat chemin de fer (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. In addition, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five slot machines and sixty six of the familiar table games, as well as 1 table of Casino Stud Poker. One more of the eight gambling dens in Poipet, also a part of a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety seven games. The Star Vegas Casino is part of an all-around resort and hotel building that features numerous conveniences on top of the gambling hall, which contains ten thousand square feet of one hundred and thirty slot machines and eighty eight tables.
